CALL FOR PRESIDENT TINUBU TO FOSTER INCLUSIVE ECONOMY AND DISCOURAGE MONOPOLIES IN NIGERIA

There is a growing call for President Bola Tinubu to take action in alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians by establishing an effective economic team and implementing policies that discourage monopolies in the nation's economy.

To alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians, there is a call for President Bola Tinubu to establish an effective economic team and implement policies that discourage the monopolization of the nation's economy. Reverend Benson Ezem, a prominent business mogul and Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Architects, emphasized the need to urgently discourage monopolies and create an environment where small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can thrive.

During a conversation with selected journalists in Lagos, Rev. Ezem expressed concern over the departure of foreign companies from Nigeria. He stressed the importance of promoting indigenous industries, as this would empower small and medium-scale players and stimulate economic growth. He cited the example of cement prices, which are significantly lower in other countries where the market is not monopolized. In contrast, Nigeria's cement sector is dominated by only two major players. Rev. Ezem emphasized the need for policies that benefit all stakeholders rather than favoring a select few.

Rev. Ezem further highlighted the disparity between the rich and the current suffering experienced by the country. He emphasized the necessity of a robust economic team that can formulate and implement practical policies. These policies should be designed to address the challenges faced by the nation and benefit all segments of society. By fostering a competitive and inclusive economic environment, Nigeria can create opportunities for growth and prosperity for its citizens.
