Governor Douye Diri Advocates Long-Term Solutions and Societal Virtues during Easter Service

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State delivered a compelling message during the Easter Sunday service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.

During the Easter Sunday service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in his community, Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri emphasized that offering palliatives wasn't a lasting solution to the country's economic hardship. He stressed the need for establishing the right structures and systems to address economic challenges rather than relying solely on short-term measures like palliatives.

Governor Diri, while reading from the book of John 20:1-18, highlighted his administration's focus on long-term empowerment through initiatives such as establishing technical colleges in all eight local government areas, implementing skills acquisition programs, and infrastructure development, including road construction to connect hinterlands. He emphasized the importance of socio-economic empowerment over short-term solutions.

He acknowledged the limitations of government provision and encouraged citizens to engage in businesses and meaningful ventures to improve their lives and contribute to the state's development. Diri emphasized the importance of taking advantage of skills acquisition programs to enhance productivity, stressing that individual efforts were crucial for societal progress.

Reflecting on the Easter celebration, Governor Diri urged people to learn from biblical lessons, particularly the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot and the doubt of Thomas Didymus. He emphasized virtues such as trust, honesty, and faithfulness as essential for building a better society.

The sermon by the Bishop of Northern Izon Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt Rev. Funkuro Amgbare, centered on the power of Jesus Christ's resurrection and its significance in bringing salvation to Christians.
