PETROL QUEUES EMERGE IN LAGOS AMIDST SUPPLY REASSURANCES

The recent emergence of petrol queues in Lagos and its environs has caused concern among motorists and other users of the product.

Petrol queues emerged in Lagos and its environs as motorists and other users made frantic efforts to purchase the product. The long queues, first noticed on Monday, have extended to many outlets, according to checks by Vanguard. The National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maiganda, stated that his members have been unable to lift the product for days.

Contrary to this, the spokesman of the NNPC Limited, Femi Soneye, assured the public that there are no supply issues and that their products remain readily available. He attributed the recent tightness experienced in certain areas to a brief distribution issue in Lagos, which has since been resolved. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), Huub Stokman, mentioned that the nation has commercial stocks of the product for distribution. He explained that distribution was constrained by elections in some parts of the nation over the weekend.

Despite the reassurances from NNPC and MEMAN, outlets of many major marketers were open for business while their independent counterparts were closed to motorists and other users of the product. Additionally, the filling stations that opened for business did not increase their prices, thus discouraging motorists from raising transport fares in Lagos and its environs.
