Yoruba Alliance Forum Urges Unity Amidst Controversy and Challenges

The Yoruba Alliance Forum (YAF) has issued a call for unity among prominent Yoruba leaders, including Gani Adams and Sunday Igboho, in the face of shared challenges confronting the Yoruba race.

The Yoruba Alliance Forum, YAF, has issued a plea to prominent Yoruba leaders such as the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, and Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, urging them to set aside their differences and unite against common adversaries of the Yoruba race.

Responding to a viral audio recording attributed to Gani Adams, allegedly linking Sunday Igboho to the death of former Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, YAF emphasized the importance of Yoruba unity in confronting shared challenges. In a statement released by its chairman and secretary, Messrs Onitolo-Ariyo Adejare and Adedeji Oluwaseun, the organization denounced the dissemination of the contentious audio content on social media platforms, labeling it as detrimental to the Yoruba cause.

YAF condemned the intrusion into the private discussions of Gani Adams and other individuals involved, stressing that such actions could jeopardize the unity and peace within the Yoruba community. The organization expressed concern over the escalating social media attacks between supporters of Adams and Igboho, cautioning against the potential repercussions on the Yoruba people, both at home and in the diaspora.

Following a telephone conversation with Gani Adams on March 23, during which he provided his perspective on the audio recording, YAF deemed it necessary to intervene in the interest of Yoruba unity and progress. According to Adams, the audio content was part of a private discussion with a US-based acquaintance, aimed at rallying various Yoruba groups to unite against common adversaries.

Gani Adams also refuted unconfirmed allegations implicating Sunday Igboho in the death of Chief Bola Ige, emphasizing the need for Yoruba stakeholders to come together and work towards the peace and prosperity of the region. YAF acknowledged interventions by prominent Yoruba leaders, including the Ooni of Ife, and reiterated its commitment to fostering peace and unity in Yorubaland.

As Nigeria prepares for a president from the southwest region and with Yoruba interests at stake, YAF stressed the importance of solidarity among all stakeholders and freedom fighters in Yoruba land. The organization appealed to social media influencers and supporters of both Gani Adams and Igboho to refrain from actions that could sow division within the Yoruba community. In the face of external threats, YAF emphasized the imperative of unity to safeguard the interests of the Yoruba people.
