Passengers bound for Lagos on a United Nigeria Airlines flight, U5 0513, experienced a terrifying ordeal as they disembarked from the aircraft, which had encountered an aquaplaning situation. This unsettling incident took place at Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, and it was triggered by heavy rainfall.

Aquaplaning, also referred to as hydroplaning, occurs when standing water causes the aircraft's moving wheels to lose contact with the surface it's supposed to grip. This loss of traction can be quite unsettling for those on board.

As the aircraft touched down with registration 5N-BWY, it encountered this aquaplaning condition due to the downpour, leading to panic among the passengers, who cried out for assistance.

United Nigeria Airlines, through a statement issued by Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, Head of Corporate Communications, reassured the public that the situation was under control. The statement explained that the aircraft had been arriving from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri and had operated and landed normally. However, it skidded off the runway upon landing.

Fortunately, all passengers were safely evacuated along with their luggage, and there were no reported injuries among the passengers. The relevant authorities were promptly informed about the incident.

United Nigeria Airlines emphasized its unwavering commitment to passenger safety and its dedication to ensuring that passengers always reach their destinations safely.
