A tragic incident unfolded in Niger State as a boat, carrying approximately 100 passengers along with goods and grains, capsized. The exact number of casualties and survivors remains unknown at this time. The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) received a report regarding the boat mishap, which occurred in the Borgu Local Government area of the state.

 

Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the Director-General of NSEMA, revealed this information in a statement released in Minna on Monday. He confirmed that the boat accident occurred on Monday afternoon. The ill-fated boat embarked from Dugga Mashaya in Dugga ward, en route to the Wara market in Kebbi State, carrying an estimated 100 passengers, as well as goods, grains, and other valuables.

 

Baba-Arah emphasized that the agency is currently unable to determine the exact number of fatalities and survivors resulting from the boat accident. Search-and-rescue efforts are actively underway, involving local divers, agency desk officers, and local government officials.
