BATTLE OF SUPREMACY, LAGOS ASSEMBLY FIGHT SANWO OLU

Tensions have arisen between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and the members of the House of Assembly, as conflicts surrounding the confirmation of nominees escalate. While historically, the Assembly has greenlit the executive's nominees, recent disagreements have resulted

The strained relationship between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and the members of the House of Assembly has become a well-known issue. Historically, the House of Assembly had typically approved the executive's nominees for screening and confirmation. However, recent conflicts between the executive and legislative branches have led to the rejection of 17 out of 39 nominees sent by the governor for confirmation.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had submitted 39 names for screening on July 25, but the Assembly, under the leadership of Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, approved 22 and rejected 17 of those nominees. While the governor has remained silent on the matter, Speaker Obasa advised those interested to seek clarification from the House.

Speaker Obasa explained the rationale behind the rejections, indicating that anyone seeking reasons should approach the House for further information. He defended the Assembly's decision and stressed the importance of protecting the party's interests, while also stating that the executive had not acted upon various resolutions passed by the House.

Some lawmakers echoed the Speaker's sentiments, advocating for the consideration of APC members who played pivotal roles in securing the party's electoral victory. They urged the governor to prioritize those who contributed to the party's success in the last general elections.

However, underlying tensions suggest a battle for influence. The source of the conflict appears to be rooted in the balance between technocrats and politicians within Sanwo-Olu's administration. Some believe that the Speaker and the Assembly are advocating for the inclusion of more politicians who actively supported the party's success in the last elections.

Governor Sanwo-Olu has faced criticism, and some stakeholders argue that he is not entirely to blame. Amid the ongoing disputes, there is a call for transparent and open communication to ensure that party unity and interests are preserved.
