LABOUR PARTY RELEASES TIMETABLE FOR FEBRUARY 2024 BYE-ELECTIONS, DISMISSES VIRAL TIMETABLE

The Labour Party has announced its timetable and activities for the upcoming February 3, 2024 bye-elections, aligning with the schedule provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The leadership of the Labour Party has unveiled its timetable and schedule of activities for the February 3, 2024 bye-elections, following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The National Working Committee of the party has also urged the public to dismiss a viral timetable purportedly released by some expelled members. This development occurred shortly after the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party approved their own timetables in accordance with the electoral procedure. INEC had previously sanctioned a timetable for conducting bye-elections resulting from the resignation or demise of members of the National and State Houses of Assembly, as reported by The PUNCH.

In a memo issued in Abuja, the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Umar Farouk, revealed that the party leadership has set the fees for nomination forms at N3.5m for the Senate, N2m for the House of Representatives, and N500,000 for the House of Assembly. Farouk also stated that the sales of the nomination, expression of interest, and delegate forms will commence from December 28, 2023, to January 4, 2024, with the submission of completed forms ending on January 4, 2024.

According to the statement, the primary elections are scheduled to take place on January 7, 2024, with female aspirants and Persons Living with Disabilities exempted from payment of fees for the Expression of Interest Forms only. The statement further indicated that the bye-election forms can be obtained at the office of the National Organising Secretary, National Headquarters in Utako, Abuja, where essential information regarding the upcoming elections will be made available to the aspirants and the public.

The statement also cautioned aspirants to ignore distractions and concentrate on the task at hand, while warning those who have been expelled to find an alternative platform for their activities, as their previous tactics are no longer effective.
