ENUGU STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE REITERATES BAN ON FIREWORKS SALES AND USAGE

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reaffirmed the prohibition of fireworks sales and unauthorized usage in the state.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reiterated the ban on the sale and unauthorized use of fireworks, commonly known as “knockout” or “banger,” in the state. This information was conveyed in a statement issued on behalf of the commissioner by the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday in Enugu.

Ndukwe quoted the commissioner as emphasizing the risks associated with the use of fireworks, including criminals exploiting them to carry out illicit activities and causing tension in the community. Additionally, the commissioner highlighted the potential dangers to human lives and property, particularly during the harmattan season, due to the high risk of bodily injuries and fire outbreaks associated with igniting fireworks.

The commissioner issued a stern warning to both dealers and users of fireworks, urging them to cease all related activities immediately. He also called upon parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from purchasing and igniting fireworks, emphasizing that violators would face the full consequences of the law. Furthermore, he directed the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units of the Command to ensure strict enforcement of the ban.

In conclusion, the commissioner extended warm wishes for a merry Christmas and a fruitful New Year to the residents while urging them to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report any criminal activities to the nearest police station.
