Kwara State Government Takes Swift Action to Address Poisonous Meat Allegations

In response to alarming reports of poisonous cow meat being sold at Mandate Market in Ilorin, the Kwara State government has taken swift and decisive action to address the situation.

The Kwara State government has taken swift action in response to reports of poisonous cow meat being sold at Mandate Market in Ilorin. Following allegations from the Kwara Monitoring Group that meat from 33 cows suspected to have died from poisoning was being sold to the public, the government ordered the temporary shutdown of the abattoir at Mandate Market. This decision aims to safeguard public health and prevent further distribution of potentially harmful meat.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment, the government also mandated the immediate cleaning and fumigation of the abattoir to eliminate any traces of contamination. The shutdown is scheduled to last until Wednesday to allow for thorough investigation and remediation efforts.

The government, represented by officials from various ministries including Health, Agriculture, and Environment, swiftly deployed a team to the market to address the situation. The seized meat has been taken for laboratory testing to confirm whether it is indeed contaminated.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, the government urged the public to remain calm while investigations are ongoing. It commended the cooperation of the market leadership in facilitating the process and assured the public that further information will be provided as necessary. The government's proactive response underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
