In the capital city of Colombo, Sri Lanka, a tragic incident occurred on Friday when a state-run bus was crushed by a large tree, resulting in the death of five passengers, as confirmed by the police.

On Friday in Sri Lanka, a tragic incident occurred in the capital city of Colombo, where a state-run bus was crushed by a large tree, resulting in the death of five passengers, according to the police. Additionally, nine individuals were rescued from the wreckage and taken to the hospital, where their condition was reported as stable. At the time of the incident, there were approximately 20 passengers on board.

According to an official from the police, the bus had stopped at the Kollupitiya stand to pick up more passengers when the tree suddenly fell on it. The official mentioned that the tree had become unstable due to the overnight rain, which weakened its stability.

Following the incident, an investigation was initiated to determine whether the municipal government had neglected proper maintenance of the trees lining the streets in the upscale neighborhood. This investigation aims to ascertain if any negligence on the part of the authorities contributed to the tragic accident.

It is worth noting that Sri Lanka has been grappling with road accidents, with a total of 2,536 people losing their lives in such incidents across the country last year.
