CONCERN OVER DETENTION OF OGUN STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MEMBER BY DSS

The Ogun State House of Assembly has expressed concern over the continued detention of Damilare Bello, a member representing Sagamu Constituency I, by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Ogun State House of Assembly expressed concern over the ongoing detention of Damilare Bello, the representative for Sagamu Constituency I, by the Department of State Services (DSS). Bello was reportedly arrested by the DSS on September 20 in connection with cult-related killings in Sagamu. In response to this situation, the Assembly passed a resolution on Thursday, demanding the release of the detained lawmaker. The purpose of this resolution is to ensure that Bello's constituents do not suffer from a lack of representation.

During the plenary session, the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, presented a motion calling for Bello's release, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye. The motion received support from other lawmakers through a voice vote. The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, presided over the session.

In their submissions, the lawmakers urged the DSS to grant Bello bail while their investigation into the matter continues. This would allow Bello to be temporarily released from detention until the investigation is concluded.
