The Northern Senators Forum has urged the Federal Government to take swift action to address severe power outages in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, which have caused widespread economic hardship and impacted healthcare delivery.

Aimed at improving power supply and mitigating the negative impact of ongoing power outages on the people and businesses in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.

At a recent meeting in Katsina, the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Yar'adua, emphasized the critical importance of swift government action to address the severe power outages in these regions. The prolonged outages, caused by vandalism and national grid disturbances, have led to significant economic hardships, with small businesses struggling to survive, hospitals facing increased operating costs, and residents bearing the burden of expensive alternative fuel sources.

In response, the forum has outlined specific requests for government intervention to stabilize and improve the power supply in the affected states. These include urging the expedited repair of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines to restore a reliable supply and implementing security measures to prevent further vandalism of power infrastructure. Additionally, the forum called for support of sustainable energy solutions, such as renewable energy and mini-grid initiatives proposed by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company.

While acknowledging recent advancements in power distribution under the current administration, Yar'adua noted that the situation remains dire and requires immediate attention to alleviate the suffering of constituents and revitalize economic activities. The Northern Senators Forum expressed its commitment to advocating for policies and measures aimed at improving power supply and mitigating the negative impact of ongoing power outages on people and businesses in the affected states.
