Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political standoff involving Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje,

Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress, Salihu Lukman, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the political standoff between Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, and the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. Lukman made this appeal in a statement titled ‘Ganduje: Indefensibility of moral and political burden,’ issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

He emphasized the need for President Tinubu to address not only the bribery charges against Ganduje but also the strained relationship between him and Kwankwaso, both former governors of Kano State who were previously allies before their falling out over political differences.

The media reported Ganduje's suspension by the Legal Adviser of his ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano, Halliru Gwanzo, citing the bribery allegations against Ganduje. However, the National Working Committee of the APC and the Kano State chapter of the party rejected and nullified the suspension, attributing it to the NNPP-led government in Kano.

Despite this, Lukman stressed the urgency for President Tinubu and top APC stakeholders to mediate between Ganduje and Kwankwaso to maintain the party's influence in Kano and the broader North. He suggested exploring the possibility of negotiating an alliance with Kwankwaso's NNPP if necessary, acknowledging Kwankwaso's strong support base in Kano.

Lukman emphasized the importance of honesty and proactive engagement in addressing the political challenges facing the APC, beyond the bribery allegations against Ganduje. He urged leaders to consider revisiting the issues that led to the disagreement between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, advocating for a strategic approach to retaining political relevance in Kano State.
