MONARCH EMPHASIZES COLLABORATION AND CULTURAL DIPLOMACY FOR DEVELOPMENT DURING VISIT FROM SOUN OF OGBOMOSO

Monarch and Soun of Ogbomoso Emphasize Collaboration and Cultural Diplomacy for Development

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the monarch's Media Consultant, Adeniyi Ifetayo, announced that the monarch received the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, in his Palace in Warri Kingdom. The monarch emphasized that traditional throne and Christianity are not necessarily opposed to each other and debunked the assumption that traditional institutions are associated with superstition and the worship of human creations. He believed that both institutions can complement each other and contribute to the growth and development of the country.

The Olu expressed his delight at the visit and considered the Soun's choice of Warri kingdom as his first visit to be divinely directed, just as his own ascension to the throne was divinely ordained. He believed that as leaders, they have a divine obligation to lead their people in righteousness, justice, fairness, and equity, which are not mere abstract concepts but compelling ideals. The monarch emphasized that only by being committed to these ideals can they lead their people towards visible and functional development in material, mental, and spiritual aspects.

The monarch highlighted the shared traditions between the Warri traditional throne and that of Ogbomoso and called for collaboration in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of their subjects. The Soun of Ogbomoso advocated for the adoption of "Cultural Diplomacy for Development" to transform traditional institutions into impactful partners in the quest for accelerated growth and development. He acknowledged the Olu's role as the lead Cultural Ambassador of the Iwere people and believed that this virtue would attract economic progress to the Warri kingdom.

The Soun's visit also served as an opportunity to announce scholarships for 10 children from Warri kingdom in Ogbomoso, covering their education from Junior to Senior Secondary School. The Soun invited the Olu to send 10 Itsekiri children to Ogbomoso on full scholarships, hoping that this gesture would be reciprocated and strengthen the educational exchange between the two kingdoms.

Both Warri and Ogbomoso have rich histories that date back centuries. The new Soun of Ogbomoso was installed on September 8, 2023, succeeding Oba Jimoh Oyewumi. Before his ascension to the throne, he served as a senior pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

In conclusion, the monarch expressed gratitude for the warm reception and goodwill received during the visit and looked forward to welcoming the Olu as a special guest in Ogbomoso for the ceremonies of their formal coronation.
