PDP CALLS FOR DEFENDING DEMOCRACY AND RESTORING NIGERIA'S LOST GLORY

People Democratic Party Congratulates Nigerians on 63rd Independence Anniversary, Calls for Defense of Democracy and Restoration of Nigeria's Progress.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended its congratulations to Nigerians on the occasion of the nation's 63rd independence anniversary. In a statement issued by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja, the PDP emphasized that this anniversary should serve as a wake-up call for all Nigerians and supporters of freedom worldwide to defend democracy.

Ologunagba stressed that it is crucial to defend the rule of law, respect for human rights, and transparency in the governance of the country. The PDP expressed deep concern that the progress made by Nigeria's founding fathers and the remarkable achievements during the country's "golden years" have been reversed.

According to Ologunagba, the independence and sovereignty of any nation are rooted in the rights, liberties, and freedoms of its citizens. He emphasized the importance of citizens' participation in governance through free, fair, and credible electoral processes, under a transparent and accountable government that upholds the rule of law and respects the constitutionally guaranteed rights of its citizens.

The statement also highlighted the economic challenges facing Nigeria. Ologunagba pointed out that the Nigerian currency, which previously exchanged at a rate of N187 to the dollar during the PDP's tenure, has now plummeted to an alarming rate of N1000 and above. Additionally, the price of fuel, which was N87 per liter under the PDP, has skyrocketed to over N600 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. The PDP further noted the continuous rise in prices of staple food and other essential commodities, with no end in sight.

In conclusion, the PDP called on Nigerians to unite and work towards reclaiming the nation's lost glory, restoring good governance, and ensuring a better future for all citizens.
