Family of Abimbola Ogunbanjo Files Lawsuit Against US Helicopter Company Following Fatal Crash

Following the tragic Southern California helicopter crash in February that claimed the life of former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, his family has initiated legal proceedings against the US helicopter company involved.

The family of the late former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, who tragically lost his life in a Southern California helicopter crash in February, has taken legal action against the US helicopter company involved. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, seeking accountability for the incident.

Alongside Ogunbanjo, the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son were also passengers onboard the ill-fated helicopter. The Ogunbanjo family contends that the flight should have been grounded due to treacherous weather conditions.

According to reports from the Press Enterprise, the family's court filing claims that the charter company, Orbic Air, negligently operated the helicopter despite adverse weather conditions in the Mojave Desert where the crash occurred on Feb. 9.

Andrew C. Robb, one of the attorneys handling the lawsuit, emphasized the family's quest for answers and accountability. He highlighted concerns regarding the suitability of flying helicopters in snowy and icy conditions, expressing uncertainty about why the flight took off.

Ogunbanjo's wife and children have also filed a lawsuit against Orbic Air and its CEO, Brady Bowers, citing wrongful death and negligence. The suit also includes unidentified successors allegedly responsible for the crash. Orbic Air has not provided any comment on the legal proceedings.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting an investigation into the crash. A preliminary report released by the agency in February outlined details regarding the helicopter's flight path and the resulting wreckage. Witnesses reported witnessing a "fireball" during rainy and snowy conditions at the time of the crash.

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial to address Ogunbanjo's burial and funeral expenses, as well as other damages. The law firm representing Ogunbanjo's family, Robb & Robb, has previously handled high-profile cases, including representing Vanessa Bryant in her lawsuit following Kobe Bryant's fatal helicopter crash.
