Zone 2 Police Command Uncovers Illegal Alcohol Production Operation in Ogun State

The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has made a significant discovery involving the production of adulterated alcoholic beverages.

The Zone 2 Police Command, located in Onikan, Lagos, has uncovered a building on Muibi Olawunmi in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, which was being used for the production of adulterated wine and other alcoholic drinks. Arrested in connection with this illegal operation were Mr. Austine and Mrs. Magret Idemudia, a couple who confessed to manufacturing these adulterated drinks during interrogation. Their illicit products had reportedly been circulating in the southwest region of Nigeria for the past six years.

Following information received about the couple's unlawful activities, Assistant Commissioner of Police Zone 2, AIG Olatoye Durosinmi, instructed the officer in charge of the Raider Section, CSP Ngozi Braide, to conduct a raid on the premises. Detectives led by CSP Ngozi Braide conducted the raid on April 4, 2024, where they encountered Mrs. Magret Idemudia.

Confirming the arrest, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ayubat Umma, disclosed that the raid resulted in the recovery of unlabeled and branded bottles of suspected adulterated alcoholic drinks, as well as containers filled with mixtures believed to be ingredients for the illicit beverages. Various equipment used in the production process, such as pumping machines, funnels, and sealing machines, were also seized from the apartment.

Additionally, the raid uncovered brand labels of Del-Mud, Del-Mud Royal, Smooth Brandy Wine Drinks, along with a funnel containing a white handkerchief used as a filter, and a corkscrew, among other production and branding items. Mrs. Magret Idemudia, apprehended at the scene, confessed to her involvement in the illegal operation alongside her husband, Austine Idemudia (also known as "Baba Joshua"). She revealed that their adulterated products had been sold to buyers across Lagos and Ogun States over the course of six years.

In response to the incident, AIG Durosinmi urged the public to exercise vigilance when purchasing food and beverages, emphasizing the serious health risks posed by the presence of adulterated products. The Zone is actively investigating the case and will provide further updates to the public as the investigation progresses.
