Foreign Airlines' Alleged Conspiracy Puts Air Peace and Nigeria's Economy at Risk

Allen Onyema, Chairman of Nigerian indigenous carrier Air Peace, has expressed alarm over alleged conspiracy tactics among foreign carriers operating on the Nigeria-UK route. He claims these airlines are undercutting airfares to push Air Peace out of international operations.

Allen Onyema, the Chairman of the Nigerian domestic airline Air Peace, has expressed alarm over what he believes to be a conspiracy among foreign carriers operating on the Nigeria-UK route. He claims that these airlines are intentionally reducing airfares in an attempt to force Air Peace out of international operations.

In an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today program, Onyema talked about the supposed "unspoken alliance" among foreign airlines. According to him, these airlines are using lower pricing strategies to drive Air Peace off the Nigeria-London route. "If they successfully eliminate Air Peace early on, this country will suffer greatly, 10 times over, and billions will be lost, leading to increased pressure on the naira," he stated.

The alleged conspiracy is causing concerns as it could have severe economic repercussions for Nigeria. If Air Peace is forced out of the international market, it could lead to job losses, reduced competition, and potential monopolies by foreign carriers, among other negative consequences.

Onyema's allegations highlight the challenges faced by domestic airlines competing with larger, more established international carriers. The situation has drawn attention to the need for support and protection of local industries, particularly in the aviation sector, which can greatly impact a country's economy and international connectivity.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the Nigerian government and regulatory authorities will take any action to address the alleged conspiracy or if domestic carriers like Air Peace will be able to withstand the pressure from foreign airlines. However, one thing is certain: the outcome of this situation could have far-reaching implications for the Nigerian aviation industry and the nation's economy.
