A student, Destiny Ogbantu, a son of a serving Inspector, living in the barracks, allegedly stabbed a fellow resident named Onyebuchi Emeka to death during a heated argument in officers' barrack, Warri Area Command, Delta State.

Tension has gripped the Officers' Barracks of the Warri Area Command of the Nigeria Police in Delta State following a tragic incident. According to reports, a student named Destiny Ogbantu, who is the son of a serving Inspector residing in the barracks, allegedly stabbed a fellow resident named Onyebuchi Emeka to death during a heated argument. The incident took place on the evening of Friday, September 22, 2023, within the vicinity of their Block D, Warri Barracks apartments.

Eyewitnesses stated that after a verbal altercation, Destiny went to his father's apartment upstairs and retrieved a knife and a dagger. He then chased Onyebuchi across other blocks within the barracks until Onyebuchi fell into a gutter, where he tragically lost his life. Upon witnessing the severity of her son's actions, the mother of the suspect immediately fled the barracks with all her children, including Destiny, and their current whereabouts remain unknown.

In response to the incident, Inspector Ogbantu, the father of the suspect, has been arrested as a proxy for his son's actions and is currently in police custody. The Delta State chapter of the Nigerian Civil Rights Council has intervened in the matter, urging the Nigeria Police Force not to overlook the incident. A protest led by Comrade Ojumude Bishop, a unit Coordinator of the group, along with other members, was held at the Warri Area Police Command. They demanded that justice be served for the slain young man and insisted that Inspector Ogbantu should cooperate in ensuring his son faces the full consequences of his actions.

As of now, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, has not provided any comments on the incident. The situation remains tense, and the community awaits further updates on the investigation and legal proceedings.
