Defence Headquarters Announces Successes in Counterterrorism Operations and Oil Theft Prevention

The Defence Headquarters has disclosed the names of terrorist leaders who met their demise in various counterterrorism operations conducted across northern Nigeria between January and March 2024.

The Defence Headquarters has released the names of terrorist leaders who were killed during various operations in the northern region of Nigeria. These operations took place between January and March 2024. Among the named terrorist kingpins are Abu Bilal Minuki, also known as Abubakar Mainok, who served as the Head of Is-Al Furqan Province (ISGS and ISWAP), and Haruna Isiya Boderi. Boderi, described as a notorious terrorist, operated in the Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State and along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. He was killed by troops on February 24.

 

Additionally, other terrorists neutralized during the operations include Kachallah Damina, who was eliminated on March 24 along with over 50 combatants. Various individuals with aliases such as Kachallah Alhaji Dayi, Kachallah Idi (Namaidaro), Kachallah Kabiru (Doka), Kachallah Azarailu (Farin-Ruwa), Kachallah Balejo, Ubangida, and Alhaji Baldu were also mentioned.

 

During a briefing in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, revealed these names to journalists. He highlighted that these achievements were made possible through coordinated strikes between ground and air forces on terrorist strongholds.

 

According to Buba, a total of 2,351 terrorists were killed, 2,308 arrested, and 1,241 kidnap hostages rescued during the reviewed period. Additionally, troops conducted ambushes, raids, fighting patrols, and offensives against the terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of numerous militants, arrests, and hostage rescues. Furthermore, significant quantities of weapons, ammunition, and stolen products were recovered by the troops during these operations.

 

Regarding the fight against crude oil theft, Buba mentioned that stolen products worth N20 billion were recovered by troops between January and March. This included the confiscation of stolen crude oil, illegally refined AGO, DPK, PMS, and other related items, totaling to significant sums and volumes.
