The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has responded to allegations that the Federal Government was engaged in negotiations with the Zamfara terrorists to secure the release of the abducted students of Federal University, Gusau. In a statement issued by Mr. Hope Attari, the Acting Director of Press and Public Relations at the MoD, it was described as misleading and false. The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, condemned the act and reassured the residents of Zamfara that the government was making every effort to secure the release of the students.

According to Badaru, President Bola Tinubu had given a clear directive to the military and other security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted students. He emphasized that the Federal Government was not negotiating with the Zamfara terrorists for their release and that the government was working tirelessly to bring the girls and others back home. The Ministry of Defence stated that no body or group had been mandated to negotiate on behalf of the Federal Government.

Badaru expressed confidence in the joint security task forces, stating that they were working diligently and discreetly around the clock to rescue the students. He extended his heartfelt sympathy to the parents, the academic community, and the entire residents of the state for the tragic abduction. However, he noted that progress was being made, as 13 of the abducted students and 3 others were freed on Monday, thanks to the professional efforts of the military.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Defence strongly condemned the reprehensible act carried out by suspected bandits and expressed solidarity with the families of the abducted students. They assured the public that the government was committed to ensuring the safe return of the remaining students and others who were still in captivity.
