Resident Doctors in Ondo State Hospital Commence 14-Day Strike Over Salary Arrears

Resident doctors at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Ondo State have commenced a 14-day warning strike due to the non-payment of seven months' salaries to their new members.

The Association of Resident Doctors at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo State, has initiated a 14-day warning strike due to the non-payment of seven months' salaries to their new members.

Members of the association staged a mini protest on the hospital premises on Tuesday, expressing their determination to disrupt activities at the government-owned medical facility if their demands were not addressed.

Dr. John Matthew, the President of the UNIMEDTH ARD, spoke with journalists during the protest, expressing frustration over the failure to pay their members' entitlements. He emphasized the need for full payment of salary arrears, as well as the February 2024 palliative for House Officers.

Furthermore, Dr. Matthew called for the prompt disbursement of February hazard allowances to their members and urgent action to alleviate the severe clinical manpower shortage within the institution. He highlighted the challenges faced by their members, stating that there is a lack of staff due to the "Japa syndrome."

The situation has garnered attention from the state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, which has urged the state government to address the shortage of resident doctors in state-owned hospitals.
