Kaduna APC Women Leader Stands Firm Amid Suspension for Criticizing Governor Uba Sani

Maryam Suleiman, the suspended Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, stands firm in her criticisms of Governor Uba Sani despite facing indefinite suspension from the party

The suspended Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Maryam Suleiman, expressed no regrets regarding her criticisms of Governor Uba Sani. In a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Monday, she described her suspension by the party for criticizing the governor as an act of God and remained undeterred.

Suleiman's indefinite suspension by the Kaduna State APC leadership came after her public criticisms of Governor Sani, who had complained about inheriting a significant debt from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai. Governor Sani disclosed during a Town Hall Meeting that the state was left with $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities, making it financially constrained to pay workers' salaries.

In response, Suleiman, speaking in the Hausa language in a viral video, rebuked the governor for his remarks and accused him of mismanagement. Despite her suspension, she reiterated her stance, asserting that she spoke the truth and emphasized that she was only aware of her suspension through social media channels, as she had not received any formal notification from her Nasarawa/Malaki Ward even 24 hours after the announcement.

Suleiman remained resolute in her position, standing by her criticisms of Governor Sani. She maintained that the governor's actions amounted to betrayal, especially considering the support he received from Nasir El-Rufai in his political career, from senatorship to governorship. Despite facing suspension, Suleiman expressed gratitude for what transpired and reaffirmed her belief in the validity of her statements.

She pointed out that Governor Uba Sani, as a senator, played a significant role in securing loans during the El-Rufai administration, suggesting his deep involvement in financial matters. Suleiman concluded by emphasizing her lack of regret over her actions, asserting that she remained unfazed by the consequences because she spoke out about what she believed to be evident truths.
