President Bola Tinubu has urged religious leaders to refrain from disparaging or criticizing the nation in their sermons. He made this call during a Ramadan Iftar gathering with traditional rulers and religious leaders at the State House in Abuja on Thursday. Tinubu emphasized the significant role that religious leaders play in shaping public opinion and fostering unity among citizens. He encouraged them to offer constructive criticism towards those in elective positions, asserting his administration's commitment to transforming Nigeria's challenges into opportunities for prosperity.

Tinubu also urged traditional and religious leaders to collaborate closely with the government to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the country. He reminded them of their responsibility to pray for the nation and educate its children, urging them not to condemn Nigeria in their sermons but to advocate for positive change instead.

Acknowledging the birthday wishes extended to him, Tinubu noted that his birthday, March 29, coincided with Good Friday. He expressed gratitude for the well-wishes and prayed for the safety and well-being of all attendees and their families.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima emphasized the crucial roles of religious and traditional rulers in promoting peace and unity, urging them to continue building bridges across ethnic and religious divides. He praised the nation's economic progress, highlighting the strengthening of the naira against the dollar and commending the president's decisive actions in addressing longstanding challenges like fuel subsidy.

Representing the Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, assured the President of the unwavering support of traditional rulers. He commended the government's efforts to address food price hikes and security challenges, pledging to collaborate with the administration for the nation's betterment.

Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, representing the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), emphasized the significance of Ramadan as a period of reflection, empathy, and unity. He expressed optimism about the country's return to peace and stability, affirming support for the president's vision.

Apostle Samson Fatokun, speaking on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), praised Tinubu for fostering a harmonious relationship between the state and the church. He commended the administration's efforts in tackling kidnapping and banditry and pledged continued support for its noble intentions for the nation.
