Gani Adams Advocates for Parliamentary System and Security Reform at Eledumare Festival

Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba, recently advocated for a shift back to a parliamentary system of government in Nigeria, criticizing the current presidential system as costly and conducive to corruption.

Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba, Gani Adams, voiced support yesterday for the country's return to a parliamentary system of government, citing the presidential system as overly expensive and prone to breeding corruption across all government sectors. Adams, who serves as the Chief Promoter of the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), also expressed concern over Nigeria's ongoing security challenges, emphasizing the continuous activities of bandits and kidnappers.

Speaking to journalists at the 12th edition of the Eledumare Festival in Lagos, Adams, represented by Asoju Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Yinka Oguntimehin, argued for a fundamental overhaul of the country's structure. He advocated for a parliamentary system where regions would have autonomy to function and prosper according to their needs. Adams highlighted the multitude of challenges facing Nigeria, including economic, political, and structural issues, alongside the alarming security situation.

In his address, Adams emphasized the urgent need for restructuring, pointing out the inefficiency and corruption inherent in the current system. He pointed to recent events, such as the tragic killing of 16 soldiers in Delta State and the rampant activities of bandits and kidnappers, as evidence of the pressing need for change. Adams believes that restructuring along regional lines could pave the way for a more secure and prosperous future for Nigeria.

Looking ahead, Adams expressed hope that future editions of the Eledumare Festival and other annual celebrations would attract even more participants. He underscored the spiritual significance of the festival while also anticipating blessings, rewards, and opportunities for all participants to seek divine intervention and guidance.
