The Northern Senators’ Forum has issued a pressing call to the Federal Government, urging decisive actions to combat the escalating cases of kidnappings nationwide.

The Northern Senators’ Forum has urged the Federal Government to take decisive actions to address the rising cases of kidnappings across the country. In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the group emphasized its commitment to ensuring a significant improvement in the security situation and holding the perpetrators of these crimes accountable.

Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the chairman of the forum, reiterated this call, expressing deep concern over the recent surge in kidnappings, particularly in northern Nigeria. He highlighted notable incidents such as the abduction of over 280 students from schools in Kaduna and the kidnapping of over 100 female internally displaced persons in Borno State.

Yar’Adua, who assumed the role of chairman following the suspension of Senator Abdul-Ahmed Ningi from Benue State, emphasized the gravity of the situation. He pointed out the alarming sequence of events in Kaduna State, including the abduction of students and staff on March 7, an attack on worshippers in a mosque on March 8, and subsequent abductions on March 12, 17, and 18, totaling a significant number of individuals.

As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Yar’Adua affirmed the forum's commitment to finding lasting solutions to the insecurity plaguing the nation. He underscored their determination to pursue measures that would lead to a tangible improvement in the security landscape. Yar’Adua concluded by reaffirming the forum's unwavering dedication to fulfilling its duty and mandate for the betterment of the Nigerian people and the nation as a whole.
