President Tinubu Adjusts Leadership Roles at Almajiri Education Commission

President Bola Tinubu has announced adjustments to key appointments at the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education.

President Bola Tinubu has made adjustments to earlier appointments he sanctioned at the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education. Brigadier-General Lawal Isa (retd.), initially appointed as Executive Secretary on March 15, will now assume the role of chairman of the commission. Dr. Idris Sani has been appointed as the executive secretary/CEO.

The announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement signed Monday evening titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new Almajiri Education Commission leadership team.’ According to Ngelale, Brigadier-General Lawal Ja’afar Isa (Rtd) is designated to serve as the Chairman of the Board of the Commission, while Dr. Idris Sani is appointed as the Executive Secretary/CEO. Sani replaces Sha’aban Sharada, who served as the commission’s pioneer leader since its creation in May 2023.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari assented to the National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Children Education Bill 2023 on May 28, 2023, and appointed Sharada as Executive Secretary. Ajuri Ngelale described Isa as a respected leader, while Sani holds master’s and doctorate degrees in Islamic Studies.

Sani has an extensive background, having served as the Director-General of Al-Iman School Lafia, Commissioner of Basic/Secondary Education in Yobe State, Chairman of the Nigerian Arabic Language Village in Borno State, Member of the Nasarawa State Government Committee on Enlightenment Campaign, and Secretary-General of the Association of Private Schools in Nasarawa State.

Ngelale expressed the President's expectation that the new appointees will bring their vast experience to the management of the critical Commission. Tinubu's administration aims to ensure that Nigeria's out-of-school children receive comprehensive education, prioritizing the nation's future interests.
