TARABA STATE GOVERNMENT INITIATES MASS TRANSIT BUS PROCUREMENT AND AIRPORT RESUMPTION PLANS

The Taraba State Government in Nigeria has unveiled its plans to procure mass transit buses to improve transportation within and between states. This initiative aims to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the general population.

The Taraba State Government has announced its plans to purchase mass transit buses in order to facilitate both intra and inter-state movements. This initiative is aimed at mitigating the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies on the general population.

Yakubu Samaila, the Commissioner for Transportation Development, stated in a telephone interview on Sunday that the government has finalized arrangements to procure buses that will enable interstate travel and transportation within the 16 Local Government Areas of the state. These buses will be made available at a highly subsidized rate.

Samaila further explained that the state government has already completed the necessary preparations to acquire metropolitan buses with seating capacities of 33 and 52. These buses will primarily serve the transportation needs of workers and students within the Jalingo metropolis. The government has also divided the capital city into five routes and designated strategic bus stops to facilitate the smooth operation of the buses.

The primary objective of this project is to assist pupils, students, and the general public, who are currently experiencing the adverse effects of the fuel subsidy removal. To ensure convenience, the bus stops have been strategically located near public schools. The government aims to prevent accidents and reduce the need for children to walk long distances from their homes to school.

The Commissioner also mentioned that the Ministry of Transportation Development has engaged market associations, transport unions, and security agencies to ensure the efficient functioning of the transportation system.

Regarding the resumption of flight operations at the Danbaba Suntai Airport, Yakubu stated that the state government has obtained provisional approval for a period of six months. This approval allows aircraft to land and take off from the airport. He further added that Rano Air and Overland are expected to resume flight operations at the airport by the end of September.
