Imo State CP Orders Arrest of Officers in Viral Video Assault Case

Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has taken decisive action in response to a disturbing incident captured in a viral video.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the arrest of policemen captured in a viral video assaulting a nursing mother, Mrs. Ogechi Eze. The video, which gained traction on social media, depicted the alleged assault of a woman and her children by officers from the Tiger Base of the state police command.

According to Henry Okoye, the command's spokesperson, this directive was conveyed in a statement released on Thursday. The statement clarified that CP Danjuma had instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the Command's X-Squad and Provost to ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken against the officers, should they be found guilty, in line with the Force's regulations.

Addressing the matter, the statement elucidated, "The Imo State Police Command is not unaware of a video making the rounds on social media, in which a nursing mother who identified herself as Mrs. Ogechi Eze, alleged that she and her children were assaulted by operatives of the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit, (Tiger Base) as their operational call-sign and is currently carrying out a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the remote facts of the case."

It further highlighted the CP's commitment to upholding professionalism within the force, stating, "The command, therefore, encourages Mrs. Ogechi to report at the Police Public Relations Department, Command Headquarters, Owerri, to assist in identifying the officers in the ongoing investigation."

Emphasizing the zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, the Commissioner reiterated, "The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command reaffirms that the Command under his watch will never condone any form of unprofessionalism, arrest by proxy, assault, or incivility to members of the public by its personnel and will not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary actions against any recalcitrant officer infringing on the fundamental human rights citizens whom we have the constitutional mandate to serve and protect."

The statement concluded by assuring the public of updates as the investigation progresses: "Further developments on this case will be communicated to the general public in due course."
