COURT ORDERS REMAND OF MURDER SUSPECT IN ONDO STATE FARMER'S KILLING

In a chilling case in Ondo State, an Akure Chief Magistrate Court has made a significant decision, ordering the remand of a man named Sunday Clement in prison custody. This decision follows allegations of his involvement in the horrifying murder of a farmer named Taye Alatoye.

In a significant development, an Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court in Akure, on Wednesday, issued an order to remand Sunday Clement in prison custody, following allegations of his involvement in the killing of a farmer named Taye Alatoye.

The defendant, Sunday Clement, had been apprehended by the state's police command and subsequently charged with a one-count charge of murder. The incident allegedly occurred as they were both on their way to a farm in the Ofosu community, located in the Idanre Local Government Area of the state.

Reports indicate that on that fateful day, Clement unexpectedly moved backward, brandished a sharpened cutlass, and fatally struck the victim on his neck, causing his head to hang lifelessly.

The prosecutor, Mary Adebayo, detailed that the defendant committed the offense on September 4, 2023, around 2:30 pm at Baba Odun Camp in Ofosu, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state. She cited violations of Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006.

Adebayo urged the court to detain the defendant at the Olokuta correctional center in Akure, pending guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Chief Magistrate Folasade Aduroja ruled in favor of the prosecutor's request, ordering the defendant's remand in prison custody. Additionally, she directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. The case was adjourned until November 28, 2023.

During the proceedings, the defendant sought forgiveness and informed the court that he had committed the act under the influence of hard drugs consumed prior to heading to the farm. He described a sudden impulse to attack the victim, which he attributed to the effects of the substance. After the incident, he claimed to have regained his senses and expressed remorse before being apprehended by the police.
