Ronaldo's Heroics Not Enough as Al Nassr Exit Asian Champions League on Penalties

In a thrilling encounter in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals, Cristiano Ronaldo's heroic effort wasn't enough to save Al Nassr from elimination on penalties against Al Ain.

Cristiano Ronaldo found the net in extra time, but Al Nassr suffered elimination from the Asian Champions League quarter-finals on penalties against Al Ain on Monday. Despite Ronaldo's goal, Al Nassr fell 3-1 in the penalty shootout after the tie ended 4-4 on aggregate.

The 39-year-old Portuguese forward was the lone scorer for Al Nassr during the shootout, with his Saudi side bowing out disappointingly. Ronaldo, formerly of Manchester United and Real Madrid, endured frustration, notably missing a clear chance from close range during normal time in Riyadh.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in the United Arab Emirates, Ronaldo's late penalty in the 118th minute forced the match to penalties. Despite a numerical advantage after Ayman Yahya's dismissal in the 98th minute, Al Nassr couldn't capitalize. The home team's failure from the spot allowed Al Ain to advance to the semi-finals of Asia’s premier club tournament.

Alex Telles, the Brazilian international defender who also had stints at Manchester United, was one of the Al Nassr players who faltered during the shootout.

In Tuesday's quarter-finals, Ulsan and Jeonbuk, both Korean teams, face off in a tied matchup at 1-1. Meanwhile, Saudi teams Al Ittihad and Al Hilal clash, with Al Hilal holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.

On Wednesday, Harry Kewell's Yokohama F-Marinos hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg as they host Chinese side Shandong Taishan.
