Former deputy governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi, has thrown his hat into the governorship race, vowing to steer the state's economy independently of federal government allocations. Contesting under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ajayi made his intentions known in Akure, emphasizing his understanding of the state's economic landscape and his plans to address its challenges.

Asserting his familiarity with Ondo State's economic intricacies, Ajayi pledged to govern the state in a manner that reduces reliance on federal allocations. He expressed confidence in his ability to identify sources of revenue within the state and cater to the needs of all residents, particularly the elderly.

Highlighting his proposed strategies, Ajayi emphasized the importance of infrastructure development, especially road construction to connect riverine areas. He drew a comparison with Lagos State's development and advocated for similar infrastructure projects to boost economic activities and alleviate congestion in Lagos.

Ajayi underscored the potential of Ondo State's coastline and advocated for the construction of access roads to attract investors and spur economic growth. He suggested that private sector involvement in infrastructure development, including ports, would be more feasible and beneficial for the state.

Addressing concerns about the primary mode of transportation, Ajayi proposed the construction of a railway system linking coastal communities to Kogi State. He believed this initiative would alleviate pressure on highways caused by heavy-duty trucks.

Expressing his commitment to the PDP, Ajayi stated that he would remain loyal to the party as long as the primary election is conducted transparently. He emphasized his readiness to govern effectively, promising to engage all stakeholders and prioritize the state's economic revitalization.
