Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Chief Akintola Williams, Nigeria's first indigenous chartered accountant, who passed away in Lagos at the remarkable age of 104.

 

In a condolence message released on Tuesday and signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Public Affairs, and Communications, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio mourned the loss of an icon and described Chief Akintola Williams as an institution in his own right.

 

Akpabio expressed regret that Nigeria has lost a source of invaluable knowledge and wisdom precisely when the nation could benefit greatly from his wealth of experience and fatherly guidance. He emphasized that Chief Akintola Williams' contributions to the accounting profession and the country as a whole are firmly etched in history and will endure.

 

According to Senator Akpabio, Chief Williams' passing is a loss to the nation, describing him as a symbol of truth, honesty, accuracy, and integrity. He further acknowledged the late sage as a gentleman, a consummate professional, and a strict disciplinarian whose legacy would be challenging to surpass within the accounting profession. Akpabio noted that Chief Williams embodied qualities such as hard work, resilience, and determination.

 

Chief Akintola Williams, as the first indigenous chartered accountant, played a pivotal role in establishing Nigeria's prominent position in the global accounting arena. He served as a role model for multiple generations of accountants who were inspired by his example.
