Tragic Incident in Ikpeshi: Two Policemen Killed After Collision with Motorcycle

In the community of Ikpeshi, situated within the Akoko-Edo local government area, a devastating incident occurred resulting in the loss of two policemen's lives.

In Ikpeshi, a community located in the Akoko-Edo local government area, two policemen tragically lost their lives after their convoy collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider and the passenger. The policemen were reportedly escorting a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Emmanuel Agbaje, at the time of the accident.

Following the collision, enraged youths stormed the Edo State Security Volunteer Network (vigilante) office, where the policemen had been taken into custody. They overran the facility and fatally beat two of the officers. However, members of the vigilante group managed to rescue the remaining two officers, who are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The vigilantes also recovered the rifles of the deceased policemen.

Reports indicate that the irate youths not only attacked the vigilante office but also vandalized its furniture. They further threatened to retaliate against any members of the vigilante group who attempted to rescue the police officers.

According to a police source, the affected officers were from Police Mobile Force 19 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The source revealed that the accident involved a Toyota Hilux van carrying four policemen, namely Inspector Brownson Brown, Inspector Abubaka Fakkuk, Sergeant Taiye Ojiefo, and Sergeant Elisha John. The collision occurred while they were on escort duty with Hon Emmanuel Agbaje.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that more details would be provided to the public in due course.

In response to the tragic event, Hon Tajudeen Alade, the chairman of the Akoko-Edo local government area, condemned the violent actions of the youths. He also praised the vigilante group for their efforts in attempting to save the lives of the policemen.
