The Ogun State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Commission has confirmed a tragic accident on Wednesday, resulting in the loss of at least five lives and injuries to ten others. The incident occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around NASFAT and involved two trucks and a bus.

According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of FRSC, the accident happened at approximately 9:56 am. It involved a Daf truck with the number plate KUT561ZZ, a Toyota Hiace bus registered as GGE84YF, and another truck without a visible number plate. Among the 15 individuals involved in the accident were 11 male and four female adults.

Okpe attributed the cause of the fatal crash to reckless driving by one of the truck drivers. This driver reportedly made a sudden U-turn without signaling, leading to a loss of control by the truck behind it and a subsequent collision with the bus.

In response to the incident, injured victims were promptly transported to Famobi Hospital in Mowe, Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area, while the deceased were taken to the morgue at Idera Hospital in Sagamu.

A combined rescue effort involving the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, and other agencies was deployed to manage the situation effectively.

Meanwhile, Anthony Uga, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, expressed concern over the frequent occurrence of crashes along this corridor. He emphasized the need for motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding speeding and driving defensively. Uga warned that drivers found culpable in accidents resulting in loss of life will face immediate prosecution to deter others from engaging in reckless driving behaviors.
