Minister of Defence Affirms President's Commitment to Security Personnel Welfare at OSMA General Assembly

Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, reaffirmed President Tinubu's commitment to enhancing the welfare and working conditions of Nigeria's military and security agencies in his address at the 8th edition of the General Assembly of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa

The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, reiterated President Bola Tinubu's unwavering commitment to the welfare and working conditions of the Nigerian military and other security agencies. Speaking at the opening of the 8th edition of the General Assembly of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) in Abuja, Abubakar emphasized the President's recognition of the sacrifices made by security personnel to maintain peace in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.

 

Abubakar urged the military and security agencies to utilize both kinetic and non-kinetic methods to tackle the security challenges facing the country. He highlighted the significance of sports and physical fitness in enhancing the resilience and effectiveness of security personnel, emphasizing the role of sports as a non-kinetic approach to security challenges.

 

The Minister emphasized the importance of OSMA in fostering unity among armed forces across Africa through sports. He noted that events like the General Assembly provide opportunities for mutual interaction and camaraderie among personnel, contributing to diplomatic relations and cooperation among member nations.

 

Acknowledging the efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff, the President of OSMA, and the local organizing committee, Abubakar commended their initiatives in organizing the continental event. He emphasized the event's role in promoting comradeship and understanding among armed forces across Africa.

 

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, highlighted the significance of hosting the General Assembly as a demonstration of Nigeria's respect and influence globally. He emphasized the non-kinetic efforts of the military in promoting peace and stability, both nationally and internationally.

 

The President of OSMA, Major-Gen. Abdullahi Maikano, outlined the objectives of the General Assembly, emphasizing its role in strengthening cohesion and fostering good relations among member nations. He highlighted the organization's history and its focus on promoting unity and camaraderie among armed forces through sports since its inception in 1946.

 

The General Assembly, attended by 37 delegations from African countries and the Headquarters of the International Military Sports Council, serves as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and collaboration among member nations to enhance peace and stability across the continent.
