Nigeria's Super Falcons Secure Olympic Qualification with Victory Over Cameroon

The Nigerian women's football team, the Super Falcons, have successfully advanced to the final round of qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics after defeating Cameroon

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the final round of qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympics after defeating Cameroon 1-0 on aggregate in the third round of qualifiers. Despite playing a goalless draw at the Stade de la Réunification in Douala on Friday, the Falcons managed to secure a crucial goal against Cameroon at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Monday.

Esther Okoronkwo's early goal proved to be the deciding factor in a closely contested match between the two teams. Despite Cameroon's efforts to push forward and create opportunities to equalize and potentially win the game on the road, Nigeria's Chiamaka Nnadozie stood firm in goal to preserve the lead.

With this victory, the Super Falcons have earned a spot in the final round of qualifiers, where they will face either Tanzania or South Africa. Only two teams from Africa will ultimately qualify for the 2024 Olympics.

The 2024 Olympics are scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Super Falcons have a history of participation in the Olympics, having previously competed in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 editions of the games.
