Legal Luminaries Remember Prof Ben Nwabueze: A Valedictory Tribute

During a valedictory court session in honor of the late legal luminary, Prof Ben Nwabueze, SAN, Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, expressed sentiments regarding the late professor's impact on Nigeria.

Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, expressed this sentiment during a valedictory court session held in honor of the late legal luminary, Prof Ben Nwabueze, SAN, in Ikeja, Lagos. The event was attended by notable figures in the legal circle, including the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, judges of the State High Court, members of the Body of Benchers and Body of Senior Advocates, lawyers, and members of late Prof Nwabueze’s family.

 

In his valedictory address, Justice Alogba praised Prof Nwabueze's significant contributions to constitutional law in Nigeria and lamented that if his advice had been heeded and implemented, Nigerians would have been enjoying better days today. He emphasized the profound impact of Prof Nwabueze's work and expressed regret that the country had not fully realized the ideals he fought for during his lifetime.

 

NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, also paid tribute to Prof Nwabueze, highlighting his enduring influence and recommending that law firm libraries stock his books as a standard for the award of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title. Similarly, Chief Solomon Asemota, SAN, representing the Body of Senior Advocates, acknowledged the significant voice that Prof Nwabueze brought to discussions of vital issues in the country.

 

In response to the tributes, Eni Nwabueze, the late Prof Nwabueze’s son, expressed gratitude on behalf of the family for the honor bestowed upon his father by the Lagos State Judiciary and the heartfelt outpouring of tributes at the event. He conveyed the family's appreciation for the recognition and the warm sentiments shared.
