Halisu Sahabi, an Assistant Superintendent of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), tragically lost his life during a raid in Awka, Anambra State, at the hands of a suspected internet fraudster. Sahabi's family laid him to rest in Sokoto State following his untimely death. It has been reported that he was planning to wed in the year after the "next fasting season."
The Anambra State Police Command apprehended the alleged perpetrator, a medical doctor named Chukwuka Josiah Ikechukwu Nnamdi, who hails from Ifite, Awka, Anambra State. Top police sources revealed that Nnamdi was found hiding in the ceiling of his neighbor's room after the incident.
Reports indicated that Sahabi succumbed to his injuries after being shot by the suspect, and his body was transported to Sokoto State for the Islamic burial rites. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, was said to have facilitated the transport of the deceased EFCC operative to Sokoto State for the burial.
A family source shared that Sahabi had been looking forward to marriage after the next fasting season, but his life was tragically cut short while performing his duties as an EFCC operative. He was part of a team sent to confront alleged internet fraudsters in Awka, but he didn't have a bulletproof vest on at the time of the incident.
In a conversation with reporters, a top police source described how the suspect was apprehended. The gunman fired at Sahabi, disposed of his gun in the bush, and then hid in the ceiling of his neighbor's room. The police and EFCC operatives ultimately detained him after discovering his hiding
