IPOB Advises Against Participating in Protests in South-East Nigeria

The separatist Indigenous People of Biafra has advised the people in the South-East not to participate in the ongoing protests against the current economic challenges in Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

The separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has advised the people in the South-East not to participate in the ongoing protests against the current economic challenges in Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. The group cautioned that such protests should not occur in the southeastern states, asserting that the Igbo community has lost interest in Nigeria and is only awaiting an opportunity to secede. This warning was conveyed in a statement by the group's spokesman, Emma Powerful.

Powerful emphasized that organizing any protest against economic hardship in the South-East would jeopardize the safety of the Igbo people. The country has recently witnessed a surge in agitation and demonstrations due to the escalating cost of living and soaring food prices. Despite this, the apex socio-cultural Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, urged the Igbo community not to partake in such protests against the Federal Government led by Tinubu.

In a statement, IPOB's spokesman cautioned the people of Biafra against joining any protests against hunger in Nigeria within the South-East region. He stated that the current economic challenges in Nigeria should be the concern of all Nigerians, not just Biafrans. Powerful expressed that the Igbo community has endured mistreatment and marginalization in the Nigerian political landscape and should refrain from participating in mass protests to avoid being targeted and profiled.

The group stressed that the South-East region is grappling with insecurity, kidnappings, and killings by government agencies and agents, including terrorists. They asserted that the region has its own challenges to address and will not permit any individual or group to exploit protests to introduce further destabilization into their territory.
