Customs Service and Emir of Kano Collaborate to Ensure Food Security and Legitimate Trade

The Nigeria Customs Service has expressed its commitment to intensify efforts aimed at preventing the illegal exportation of Nigeria's grains to other African countries in order to ensure sufficient food security for its citizens.

Ify Ogbudu, the Zonal Coordinator of Zone B of the service, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at his palace.

 

During the visit, Ogbudu pledged the service's support in ensuring that the 42,000 metric tons of grains approved for distribution by the Federal Government reached those in need as directed. She also sought the emir's support in recognizing the critical roles of the Customs Service in advancing the government's commitment to poverty alleviation and food security.

 

In response, the emir expressed gratitude for the service's efforts in safeguarding the country's economic integrity despite facing numerous challenges. He urged customs officers to uphold diligence in their service to the nation and advised them to show compassion towards local traders who might act out of ignorance. The emir emphasized the importance of enlightenment and community engagement in curbing breaches and assured the customs service of the emirate's support in facilitating legitimate trade.

 

Furthermore, the emir commended the progress made in reducing disputes between traders and customs officials through stakeholder engagements. He also appreciated the ongoing enlightenment initiatives aimed at supporting local traders and businessmen in conducting lawful trade.
