FCT Minister Warns Against Bureaucracy in Road Projects, Inaugurates New Rural Road

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, recently issued a caution to Directors in the FCT Administration regarding unnecessary bureaucracy that could hinder the timely delivery of road projects.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has cautioned Directors in the FCT Administration against unnecessary bureaucracy that could impede the timely delivery of road projects. He issued this warning while inaugurating the construction of a five-kilometer road linking Naharati, River Ukya, and Unguwan Hausawa communities in Abaji Area Council of FCT.

Wike specifically admonished the Directors against delaying the processing of files. He emphasized the need for swift action, stating, "Once I grant approvals, the bureaucracy should be able to do its due diligence within seven days and ensure the release of funds." The Minister stressed the significance of rural road projects across the six Area Councils to the federal capital and expressed his determination to prevent any hindrance to the development of rural communities in FCT.

He further warned that any Director who fails to act promptly on approved files would be labeled a saboteur. Wike underscored the importance of timely fund disbursement, highlighting the adverse effects of delayed payments on contractors and the subsequent cost implications. He urged the bureaucracy to provide support to ensure the timely delivery of democracy dividends to the people.

Wike assured rural dwellers that all road projects, including new ones to be inaugurated, would be completed before the end of 2024. The Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Mr. Abdullahi Abubakar, expressed the significance of the road project in the council's progress and development journey, emphasizing its potential to decongest the by-pass and improve access to essential services for rural communities.

The Ona of Abaji also commended the Minister for his commitment to rural development and pledged the traditional council's support for the success of the projects. Notably, the FCT Minister has inaugurated the construction of five rural roads totaling 37.2 kilometers across five Area Councils, with the latest being the five-kilometer road in Abaji Area Council.
