Formerly serving as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at Jesus House in Washington DC, Prince Afolabi Ghandi Laoye has assumed a new role as the Soun of Ogbomosoland. The kingmakers orchestrated his enthronement, which took place in the early hours of a Friday, marked by a jubilant crowd gathered at the palace to celebrate and praise the newly crowned monarch as he assumed his ancestral throne.

Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye's journey to becoming the Soun began when he arrived in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, for the necessary ritual rites and his formal installation as the Soun. His selection for this prestigious position was made by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyin Makinde, the previous Saturday. This appointment was significant as the Soun's traditional position had remained vacant since the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III on December 12, 2021.

Ghandi Laoye's arrival in Ogbomoso was marked by a grand entrance, landing in a private helicopter at Ogbomoso Grammar School before proceeding to the palace. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, Olusegun Olayiwola, officially announced the governor's selection of Laoye as the new Soun, following a meticulously conducted process in accordance with the law. The state government conveyed their congratulations to the Soun-elect, acknowledging his ascendancy to the revered throne of his forebears
