Ondo State Governor Affirms Support for Local Council Development Areas

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has affirmed his commitment to maintaining the recently established Local Council Development Areas in the state, emphasizing their significance as part of late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu's legacy.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has made it clear that his administration has no intention of abolishing the recently established Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state by the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu. Aiyedatiwa conveyed this during a meeting in Akure with the former members of the caretaker committees of the LGAs and LCDAs.

He announced that the government will soon establish transition committees for the 18 Local Government Areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas in preparation for the upcoming local government elections in the State. Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the creation of the LCDAs stands as one of the legacies of the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and must be preserved.

The governor informed the 255 former appointees that a case filed in court by the opposition party and subsequent court injunction had prevented their inauguration and assumption of office. He assured them that efforts were underway to resolve the court case through a political solution granted by the court. Aiyedatiwa added that once the case is withdrawn from the court, all errors made in the composition of the list of the appointees would be rectified, and transition committees would be inaugurated.

Aiyedatiwa urged the former appointees to show more commitment to the party within their respective local government areas, emphasizing the importance of unity within the party for the progress of the APC and the development of the State. He stressed that there is no division in the party's leadership.

The State APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, echoed the governor's call for unity in the party and commended the Governor for engaging with the party members. Hon. Olaniyi Gbenga and Mrs. Funke Kumuyi, speaking on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the interface and pledged their loyalty and support for his administration.
