Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Lucky Imasuen, has decided to withdraw from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election taking place in Edo today. His withdrawal was confirmed through a letter released on Saturday morning by Imasuen. Despite being one of the 12 governorship aspirants who were screened and cleared by a committee set up by the APC National Working Committee, Imasuen cited the interest of peace and unity as the reason for his withdrawal in a letter addressed to his supporters.

In the withdrawal letter, Imasuen explained that he made the decision because the party leadership had chosen to zone the governorship ticket to the Central Senatorial District. He expressed gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering support and belief in him throughout the campaign, acknowledging their dedication and passion as the driving force behind his candidacy. While acknowledging that the decision was not made lightly, he expressed his hope that his supporters would understand and continue to support the party as they work together towards their shared goals. He also stated his readiness to support whoever emerges as the candidate in the primary election.

The primary election of the party is scheduled to hold today. Additionally, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu also announced his withdrawal from the race in a letter sent to the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, and copied to the acting state chairman of the party, Jarrett Tenebe. Ize-Iyamu described his decision as a painful one, having been one of the top contenders before his withdrawal, which came as a surprise to many.
