Senegalese President Macky Sall Complies with Court Ruling on Presidential Election Postponement

Senegalese President Macky Sall has recently announced his full compliance with a court ruling that overturned the postponement of the presidential election to December of the current year.

Senegalese President Macky Sall announced his full compliance with a court ruling that overturned the postponement of the presidential election to December of the current year. He expressed his commitment to promptly initiate the necessary consultations for the organization of the presidential election in Senegal at the earliest opportunity.

The decision to delay the February 25 poll, which had caused electoral uncertainty in the country, was overturned by Senegal’s Constitutional Council on Thursday, as reported by Reuters. This action followed the ruling of Senegal’s top election authority, which declared the president’s postponement of the presidential election as unconstitutional.

In response to the council’s decision and its call for the election to proceed as soon as possible, the presidency released a statement on Friday affirming that President Sall has acknowledged the council’s ruling and its request. The statement emphasized that the president is fully committed to implementing the decision of the constitutional council.
