Mr. Fuad Atanda-Lawal, the Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos, has given his approval for a 100% pay rise for the medical doctors working at all primary health centers within the council area. This decision was announced on Thursday following extensive discussions aimed at ensuring that all residents in the council have access to comprehensive, quality, and affordable healthcare.

The chairman stated that the increment would come into effect from February 2024. He emphasized that the decision was made in response to the need to address the brain drain currently experienced in the nation’s health sector and the ongoing rise in inflation. Atanda-Lawal expressed his belief in the competence of Nigerian doctors and stressed the importance of providing them with the necessary incentives to compete globally, thereby fostering their sustained commitment to the country.

Furthermore, he highlighted the commencement of the construction of a state-of-the-art primary health center, which is intended to cater to a larger number of people in the community. Atanda-Lawal reiterated the council's commitment to supporting the endeavors of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwolu in delivering quality and affordable healthcare to all citizens. He concluded by stating, "We believe that by investing in our healthcare professionals, we are taking a step towards achieving this goal."
