Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a directive aimed at providing free antenatal and delivery services for all registered pregnant women in government hospitals and health centers across the state. The announcement came during the launch of this initiative at Nnobi General Hospital in Idemili South local government area. This move is part of the governor's efforts to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal.

Governor Soludo emphasized that these free services will remain available for as long as he is in office in Anambra State. He called on Anambra communities to contribute to these efforts, acknowledging that government alone cannot address all needs, particularly given that a significant portion of Anambra's funds are in private hands, with only two percent under government control.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, highlighted that this initiative aims to ensure that the people of Anambra enjoy good health. As part of this initiative, 500 health workers, to be employed by the state government, have received training. Additionally, doctors, nurses, and a hematology lab attendant have been dispatched to Nnobi General Hospital to enhance healthcare delivery.

Dr. Obidike underlined that the primary objective of this initiative is to reduce the rates of maternal and infant mortality in the state. He also emphasized that Governor Soludo has secured approval and funding for these antenatal and delivery services as part of this healthcare initiative.
