Nigerian Police Force Takes Firm Stance Against Fake News and Cyberbullying

The Nigerian Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, has taken a firm stance against the dissemination of fake news and cyberbullying.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive to the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) to crack down on individuals and groups spreading fake news and misinformation that threaten national security and stability. The IGP has also mandated that all perpetrators found spreading false information or engaging in cyberbullying be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

This directive was communicated in a statement released by the Force headquarters titled, “NPF Speaks Tough Against Fake News, Cyber Bullying; As Police Condemns Circulation of Old Content to Discredit System.” The statement strongly condemns the dissemination of fake news and cyberbullying, emphasizing the malicious intent behind spreading old content and misinformation to undermine public trust in the policing system.

The NPF views these actions as a direct assault on the stability and safety of society and is committed to taking decisive action against those responsible. The Force is intensifying its efforts to combat fake news and cyberbullying through increased vigilance and monitoring of online platforms. The IGP's directive to the NPF-NCCC is aimed at curbing the spread of fake news and misinformation that jeopardize national security and stability.

The Police are urging citizens to exercise caution and discernment when consuming and sharing information online, emphasizing the collective responsibility to uphold truth and integrity. Additionally, the public is encouraged to report any instances of fake news or cyberbullying to the Police for prompt investigation and action.
